FAQ

Why do Fathers need a personal finance site?

Fathers face unique challenges and opportunities in their personal finance. These can be addressed with education, support and financial instruments. It’s our belief that:

  1. Financial knowledge for fathers, partners, and children is crucial to an enriched life of health, wealth and self-enrichment.
  2. Access to education in the personal finance space is severely lacking.
  3. The fears around finance are daunting and abundant, stemming from knowledge gaps. We seek to fill this dearth with shared knowledge, concepts and formulas, and a look at the history of finance so we may better shape our future.

What defines a father?

The site is produced for fathers in the United States. This applies to current, previous and future fathers; any age, all genders and all backgrounds. Being a father is not defined by any one of these characteristics. If you identify as a father, this site is for you.

It’s called Finance for Fathers, so why does this site include Partners and Kids?

Fathers are as much stewards of their family’s present and future as their partners and kids. All parties must be included in the conversation and share knowledge to agree on the direction the family is taking for collective financial independence and net positive interdependence.

What is personal finance?

Personal finance encompasses planning and managing personal financial activities in a household, namely earning income, spending, saving, investing and protecting. Documents used in the personal finance journey include budgets, tax forms, bank statements and summaries of investment positions. As a father, your personal finances will be inextricably linked to your family’s financial future.

What is the difference between personal finance and corporate finance?

Finance For Fathers pertains to personal finance, not corporate, but the two share similar goals, challenges, histories, formulas and philosophies. Corporate finance involves managing assets, liabilities, equities, revenues, and debts for a business, which are typically illustrated in documents like the statement of cash flows, balance sheet and income statement. As noted above, personal finance is focused on individual and household finances. Corporate finance and personal finance are not defined by just money, financial markets, entrepreneurship or government, though they are all intricately tangled together.

Does this site provide recommendations and guidance?

No. This site does not in any way provide financial recommendations for you to buy, sell, or hold securities or investments. We provide relevant analysis, context, insights, and educational information to help you make informed decisions. Finance For Fathers content is for informational and entertainment purposes, and is not intended to substitute for the advice of a licensed or certified attorney, accountant, financial advisor, or other certified financial professionals.

Does this site post easy ways to make or save money?

This site does not post coupons, contests or “easy” ways to make or save money. Our research, POVs and personal stories are combined with data, industry articles and professional insights. We believe that personal financial growth is a long road requiring attention, hard work and some sacrifice. At the end of the road lies personal gratification and an optimal future for you and your family. You cannot get their by taking the easy route. If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is and we won’t have that here. The content on this site is mainly concentrated thoughts, fatherly-focused ideas, market takes, some history, some reviews and, of course, knowledgeable insights on fatherhood and finance.

How does the site make money?

Finance For Fathers partners with advertisers and affiliate partners who are looking to reach consumers. We maintain strict editorial independence for all of our content, particularly on reviews and recommendations. If a product is great, we’ll tell you even if we don’t have an advertising relationship. If we think a product is bad, we’ll tell you that, even if we DO have an advertising relationship with them. While we do recommend and review products regardless of any advertising relationships, we may not have reviewed every product available in a given category. In some cases, editorial may include links to partners for which Finance For Fathers receives an affiliate commission. The placement of these links is not influenced by payment, and editorial reserves the right to change, modify or remove them at any time in order to provide the best experience to users.
